Hiya Swimwear and Lingerie fans.

I’ve come to the realization that I won’t be eligible for a vacation yet again this year and am now seriously pining for the beach.

Typical right?

In order to pacify my pathetic need to want what I can’t have, I’ve found a lovely little beach pin up for our viewing pleasure.

She has a pretty sweet little swimwsuit on {how awesome are those bottome? they look good and look comfortable too!} and I’m actually really digging her rather clompy foot wear choice, too.

I like that she hasn’t been given the Jessica Rabbit proportions favoured by some artists and instead is working her look with just a smirky little smile.

Until further notice, I’ll be pretending to be her, so if you see me outside eating my lunch on the corporate lawn, pretending to adjust the ties on my bottoms… just shrug and mark it up to a serious lack of down time.

Cheers,

Maggie

You’ve seen her suits mentioned before here because she has an amazing design sense with full on, retro-girly awesomeness. I really can’t say enough about them.

The designs were inspired by some of their favorite places to visit.

Bettie B Dangerous 2012 "Bali Sunset"

Such places as the lush green landscapes of Bali, the sparkling orange sunsets found on the peninsulas in Italy and the chic Parisian on holiday in St. Tropez.

Sadly inspired by Bali suits are the closest I'm going to get to Bali anytime soon! Either way, I'd be wearing an awesome suit though.

Happy Friday Swimwear and Lingerie Fans!!! Wahoooo the weekend is officially here!

It’s Free-for-All Friday and I was thinking about how we never really seem to focus on swimwear anymore, and by “we”, I of course mean “Me”. So very sorry about this grave oversight.

Then I started trying to think of ways to rectify such a glaring mistake and lo and behold… I had an epiphany!!!! What’s more swimwear-ish then Baywatch? And I’m talking classic, super music-video-esque early Nineties Baywatch too!

Now get your popcorn ready and thank your lucky stars that retro swimwear seems to have abolished these ridiculously high-cut legs. If these women can’t make them look good, then it’s pretty safe to say that no one can!

So, with no further delay, I present you Baywatch doing what Baywatch does best… “The Montage” {and it’s set to one of my favourite artists too! Gotta love Enya!}

Great way to start off the weekend right? I know! Big shout out to my main man David Hasselhof! You rocked every single episode my friend! Well done on ya!

Cheers,

Maggie

Happy Friday my darling Swimwear and Lingerie buddies!

We made it!!! Wahoooo! Yippeeee! Tra la la la! Let’s do a happy dance now!

Seriously! You just can’t watch that without grinning ear to ear!

I have a little swimwear humour for us today, although when I say humour, I think it falls more under the cruelly sardonic category more than anything. Frankly, I think she looks lovely and if she’s comfortable then she should wear the darn outfit with pride!

But I might be a bit sensitive about size. {and maybe about age too…} I think I need a little more Carlton to make me giggle again. He’s just awesome 🙂
Cheers,

Maggie

One more…

You’re welcome 🙂

Happy Friday, Swimwear and Lingerie Friends!

Yippee it’s the weekend and I kinda feel like this…

Yabba Dabba Dooooooo!!!!

Here’s a cartoon that’s bound to make you giggle just a bit. At least I hope it does. If my buttocks were as high and rounded as her’s, I would totally wear the butt floss too! Clearly he has flipped with shocked admiration! Wish i still had that effect on people…

Cheers,

Maggie

PS. Incidentally, I can’t say the word buttocks without giggling and thinking of Forrest Gump.

Happy Monday Swimwear and Lingerie buddies!

How was the weekend? Everyone manage to get a little you time in? I’ve indulged a little too heavily over the summer and my bras weren’t fitting as well as could be hoped for so…. I WENT LINGERIE SHOPPING!!!!! Woot!

Yup, there’s always an upside….even to gaining weigh!

Gained a bit of weight this summer... inflated the girls a bit too much!

Gained a bit of weight this summer... inflated the girls a bit too much!

I went to one of my favourite little lingerie shops nearby-ish, Vicanies, and had a superb bra fitting with one of their wonderful staff.

One quick aside; to anyone who has ever felt nervous or shy about a bra fitting you should know that a well staffed, professional boutique delivers the most professional, friendly and informative service, they will take care to match their level of interaction to your specific needs and comfort level. Face your fears and get your boobies measured… the change in your appearance alone is worth it!

{Public service announcement for today is now over, please return to your regularly scheduled lingerie ogling!}

I’ll let you know what lingerie I bought another day, but today I just HAVE to tell you what I got, completely out of season, with no chance of wearing it for at least another 8-9 months!

This!

Panache Monroe Halter Tankini to die for... not literally of course, it's not like I'm going swimming with sharks or anything!

Panache Monroe Tankini Bottoms

Panache Monroe Tankini Bottoms

It’s from Panache, the Monroe Halter Tankini and I think I’m a little bit in lurve! It isn’t from the latest Panache Swimwear season so I even got it on sale… just gets better and better doesn’t it?

I know right?

Now, I’m not usually a fan of polka dots, but dab naggit, if this isn’t the cutest little thing EVER. I actually felt a bit like Minnie Mouse rather than the other famous MM (Marilyn Monroe) while wearing it and strangely enough that wasn’t a bad thing.

Kicking it Mini Mouse-style

Kicking it Mini Mouse-style

What really sold me on it was the fact that it was a halter style neckline that was COMFORTABLE for one. Halter neckline are rather slimming for broad shouldered ladies such as myself, but so often they aren’t supportive enough for boobies over a B cup. I wrote a little ranty type post on halter necklines awhile back if you recall.

This tankini features a built in bra that actually supports my bust and keeps me contained and comfortable, which is no small feat let me tell you! I love a company that sees a neglected niche and fills it so beautifully. From their website: “After the success of Panache Superbra, and gaining a reputation for “excellence in fit”, the natural progression was to extend this knowledge into the swimwear market. Similar to the Superbra range, Panache Swimwear provides core basics in a variety of simple shapes alongside fashionable designs from D-K cup.”

And let me tell you, the built in bra is nothing to sneeze at. Scratch that. I can totally sneeze in this and not knock a surfer off his board from 10 feet away! I am in awe of a halter tankini that actually fits, feels good and looks good too!

Check out your local lingerie shop and see if you can nab any last season clearouts…they’re definitely worth it!

Happy Friday Swimwear and Lingerie Friends.

Today is usually Friday Funnies, however, I found this cartoon and while it’s supposed to be funny… I just find it really sad and kind of depressing… What about you?

Sad but true for many women.

Sad but true for many women.

I think that it might be wise for us, and society as a whole, to stop acting like the massive inferiority complex and self-hate that most people feel, is all just a big joke. It isn’t. It’s serious, it’s damaging and quite frankly it seems to be passed down through the generations willingly which makes it a relentless predator.

How can we change this?

Cheers,

Maggie

Phoebe Cates’ Retro Bikini

Happy Tuesday Swimwear and Lingerie buddies!

Since yesterday’s Must Have Monday item was Common Sense, {or at least a survival instinct not to knock myself out by wearing too much lingerie and trying to belly surf across my bed on a river of silk} I thought that today’s Totally Retro Tuesday could be a little bit different too. I decided that rather than ooh and ahhh over the message a company was sending with their advertising or mentioning how amazing Marilyn Monroe looked in EVERYTHING… that we could look at the actual item of clothing in the picture and see what made it so awesome.

{I am in no way minimizing just how phenomenal Phoebe Cates is as an actress and as a representation of a healthy, confident feminine figure… after all, let’s face it, there’s a reason she was everyone’s fantasy girl! But for now, we’ll just talk about the swimwear okay?}

I forget where I was on the internet, but I happened to stumble across the iconic photo of Phoebe Cates wearing the notorious red bikini that has helped to make the 80’s movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, such a cult classic and favourite of 13 year old boys everywhere.

Ignoring for the moment that the movie is from 1982 and that it can officially be called retro, which is totally freakin’ me out… {Yes, I was alive in the 80’s, I won’t tell you how old, nor will I tell you that I still can’t believe it’s actually the new millenium… damn I feel old… even though I’m NOT!}
…I thought it would be a good idea to look at her bikini and see where the styles have come full circle and what makes it such a classic design.

The two piece swimsuit is a beautiful deep cherry red that creates a real sense of drama and sophistication. The bikini top features small, triangular, gathered cups with a hidden front closure, tie behind straps, and minimalist matching, over-the-shoulder straps. The bottoms featured a full front and back with a figure flattering, v-shaped, criss cross detail on the waistband. I adore the fact that the top is so minimalist and sparse, as compared to the fuller cut of the bottoms.

Even though this suit is almost three decades old, it wouldn’t be out of place on a beach or pool deck in this day and age. Which is the point of my post. When you have a great design it transcends trends and styles.

Cheers,

Maggie

Happy Totally Retro Tuesday Swimwear and Lingerie Fans.

Today’s Totally Retro Tuesday post is all about Bongo Boards and has some fabulous incidental footage of retro Swimsuits in the video.

I have to admit after playing around on the Seafolly site yesterday, I’m still gelling on the vintage silhouette and would love to own some suits like these ladies have on.

{I’m not really sure how the heck they stay on while exercising, but they look really great and unconcerned about potential wardrobe malfunctions. So whatever it is, it certainly is working!}

So, sit back, enjoy the video and learn all about an exercise/workout that is still pretty awesome today, but not as awesome as those swimsuits!

Cheers,

Maggie

Hello and Happy Monday Swimwear and Lingerie Buddies.

It is a long weekend here in Canada-land and as such I only have a brief posting for you today… I’m on holiday and loving every minute of it!

So to start us off, I decided on the theme for this “Must Have Monday” post due to the need for a super comfy, totally function-able yet breathtakingly awesome piece of swimming attire. So not so much lingerie today but definitely heavy on the swimwear.

Let me show you the also-rans that I really love but weren’t quite special enough for the ultimate Must Have spotlight… I gleaned each of these beauties from Seafolly. For more information about the Australian Swimwear Line pop on over here, to get right to the visuals, read on.

I adore the boy leg cut of the pants and the halter styling of the top would balance my shoulders and curviness beautifully, BUT this isn’t the one I adore the most.

Seafolly Matt Separates Fixed Moulded Tri and Tie Side Pant with Frill

Now, this one really surprised the heck out of me… I generally have a fairly firm “no pink” rule on my wardrobe choices… but dang if the frills and stylish cut aren’t overruling my pink prejudice…. who knew?

Seafolly Boyleg Maillot

Seafolly Boyleg Maillot

This one was a hugely strong contender… it has the vintage swimwear styling that I love and it has a cool print and interesting construction… throw in the boy leg and it should have won… but it didn’t. Curiouser and curioser…

Are you ready for the big reveal?

Well here it is… I’m not sure why I find this swimwsuit so beguiling.

Seafolly Matt Separates

It could be the strapless nature of the top, the quasi-skirt of the bottom, it definitely has something to do with the totally retro feel of the style and the adorable print. I love the frill at the top and the structured feel of the bodice… all in all, I just really really want it… and not just because I could justify buying the wicked cool swimsuit cover-up below to go with it… though that could have had something to do with the decision.

Ps. Have an excellent Holiday weekend if you’re Canadian… if you’re not, sorry about your luck but you can daydream while you check out Seafolly’s swimwear collection!
