Happy Monday Swimwear and Lingerie Fans!!!

Today’s Must-Have-Monday is going to take a little while to get to. Basically, I need to preface it with a little information first. So bear with me please.

It’s almost July… and you know what that means right? Right? Well, yah, there’re fireworks and that whole Canada Day (July 1st)/ Independence Day (July 4th) thing.

Ooooh, Ahhhh,Ohhhhh

Ooooh, Ahhhh,Ohhhhh

But that’s not what I’m talking about.

Nope, I’m talking about Julyna!!!! How excited are you?

Seriously? You haven’t heard about Julyna yet? It’s only the coolest thing since MOvember was invented.

Basically, Julyna is women’s answer to Movember. Remember back in November when men were walking around, all month, sporting the dorkiest facial hair (moustaches) they could grow? It was all okay because they were doing it to fund-raise for Prostrate Cancer Research.

Well, we chicks were feeling so very left out and ‘POOF’ Julyna was born. Women can support Cervical Cancer research and have fun personalizing their most personal mane… Hmm, I’d better let the website explain it all;

“Julyna was dreamt up by a group of girls sitting around a booth at Le Petit Castor, in Rosedale, Toronto. It was mid-November, right around the time that Movember (The global charity that raises funds and awareness for men’s health through the power of the moustache) was in full swing.

“Wouldn’t it be great if we could grow out our mustaches?” one of us said after a sip of her pink panther. “Well, I’m sure I could grow one,” another laughed. At that very moment there was a suggestion, “Why don’t we start a charity to raise money for cervical cancer? What about calling it muffember, or bevember, or vulvember…?” The names kept coming but it wasn’t until many months later that we came up with the term “Julyna.”

The rules for Julyna are simple: Women will spend the month of July exercising creativity and personal wellness by choosing a style for their hair down there and sticking to it—as a fundraising technique. Women don’t have to leave it au naturel, or choose a standard pattern like “The Charlie Chaplin.” They can make something up. Get creative!

Not only do we hope that Julyna raises funds for cervical cancer, but also that the added attention drawn below the belt will inspire women to take care of this area in other ways, i.e. through scheduled Pap tests or by discussing the HPV vaccine with their family doctors.

I’ve been getting a lot of people saying “I won’t get to see the designs, so why would I give money without proof?” First of all, people give money to marathon runners and it’s rare that they will actually see him/her running. Secondly, do you really need proof of the handy work to give money to a cause that will ultimately result in saving the lives of many women? That’s right, I didn’t think so!”

I really love the people behind this idea for several reasons;

1. Yippee a Toronto initiative, go Ontario!
2. Reading through the website, the letter written by Vanessa Willson (sampled above) seriously cracks me up… clearly a lady truly in touch with her funny bone.
3. The more fun women are inspired to have with their bodies the less chance that they will be too ’embarassed’ or shamed to speak up about their needs both medically and otherwise!

Awesome stuff right? Bet you’re wondering where the Must Have Monday part comes in right?

Well, as I have experienced more than my unfair share of “moundscaping” disasters in the past, (I’m not quite ready to talk about it… maybe another time) my first concern was obviously with the initial grow in phase and shaping… depending on what design you currently work and what you are going to try for Julyna (damn, I really just love saying that) there could be some embarrassing grow in issues.

Voila! To the rescue…. the MERKIN! The Nipple Pasties’ big sister.

Yup, it really is meant for that purpose! Crazy cool right?

That way, you can have a grand reveal (if you choose to) and/or hide the initial, potentially stubbly, grow in phase.

This particular Merkin is from Saumarez and is designed by Holloway-Smith Noir. There are even matching nipple pasties… Wouldn’t a match set be quite the over the top event?

But there are several other designs that I love too. The next few Merkins are from GothFox Designs.

This one is too pretty to ever cover up. I love the colour, the feather… everything!

This one is obviously a winning choice for Valentine’s Day… but should really get far more play and use than once a year!
