Shake a tail feather my friends... this day is worth celebrating!

Shake a tail feather my friends… this day is worth celebrating!

Hallooooo Friday! Won’t you join me in a happy Friday dance my darling Swimwear and Lingerie friends.

It couldn’t come fast enough this week, that waterpark has been gurgling my name and distracting me all week.

So, I decided not to fight it and just let myself cruise around on the internetz and see what lovely swimwear related things I could churn up and lo and behold…POOF…I found that Kiss Me Deadly has brought out a line of vintage styled swimsuits!

Kiss Me Deadly Swimwear

Gorgeous right? I Know!!!!

{on a quick side note, I love the pirate theme they’re using. Are they being cheeky or expressing their support for the FSM movement?}

Kiss Me Deadly White Bikini

Love the high waist and cute as a button bikini top of this two piece.

Kiss Me Deadly Tropical Kitten Bikini

Excellent name don’t you think? Tropical Kitten?

Kiss Me Deadly Jojo Check Swimsuit

Hands down my favourite of all the designs. I love the playsuit cut, the checkered fabric… this is the perfect swimsuit as far as I am concerned.

Lovely.

Kiss Me Deadly Delores Swimsuit

This is a strong contender for my most favourite, which is odd, because I’m usually not a fan of ruching in a one piece swimsuit. But the colour is dazzling, the halter neckline is so flattering… it just works.

I still love the Jojo Check the best… but it’s pretty close! Wish me luck tomorrow…Fingers crossed for great weather and nice, polite crowds… :)

Cheers,

Maggie

Shake a tail folks! It's Friday!

Happy Friday Swimwear and Lingerie friends.

I was just thinking how it’s really freakin’ hot outside and how I loathe swimsuit shopping in general.

So very stinking hot outside!

So very stinking hot outside!

So, knowing that I would rather get a recreational mamogram, than voluntarily go through the soul crushing process of finding a swimsuit, in a style I like, in a price point that won’t kill my budget and that shows off all my attributes while camoflaging my less than pointy parts…

The fact that I’m ravenously coveting everysingle design from What Katie Did‘s Swimwear Collection should tell you plenty!

Squeee! Isn’t it retro-awesome?

What Katie Did Bikini in Claret and Cream

Isn’t the deep red and cream striking in that matte fabric? I luvs it!

Now check out this “Black Tie” Swimsuit

I even prefer it over the super cute two piece… which is saying something because that little skirted bottom on the two piece is really, really flattering.

You know what though? That striking red and cream suit comes in a one piece that has just jumped to the front of my want list. Look at the classic detailing and lines. It’s so very figure flattering and fun… yup I’m definitely in deep smit with it.

What Katie Did 2012 Swimsuit- Psst, it comes in the light blue pictured waaaay above and also in black!

Last but certainly not least we have the Classic Swimsuit in Black. I think the rear view is even more flattering than the front. What about you?

Could you rock these styles on a beach near you this season?

My only hold out would be due to the fact the tea-coloured water in my lake might not agree with the light coloured trim… So I would have to have one suit for dry land fun and one for swimming silliness. Doesn’t seem like a bad thing to me!

Cheers,

Maggie

Aren't they so cute and cuddly?

Happy middle of the week Swimwear and Lingerie Fanatics!

It’s hot and sweaty out and I haven’t cracked open my summer wardrobe yet.

This sweet pin up is pretty inspiring though. I love her fuzzy pink two piece, ponytail and strappy sandals!

The texture of the swimsuit looks like she may have skinned a muppet or a big fluffy towel.

Hmmm... has anyone seen Betty Lou lately?

Hmmm… has anyone seen Betty Lou lately?

But with a smile that sweetly serene, I’m guessing it was more likely the latter than the former.

That's weird... Prarie Dawn's skin is a perfect match for the colour of that bikini.... nahhh

If we could see the back, we’d know for sure… there would be some kind of tail or spindly arm hanging out. :)

Cheers,

Maggie

psst… happy earworm suckahs! I use to have this on my answering machine message just to mess with people and completely pollute their minds ;)

Hiya Swimwear and Lingerie fans.

I’ve come to the realization that I won’t be eligible for a vacation yet again this year and am now seriously pining for the beach.

Typical right?

In order to pacify my pathetic need to want what I can’t have, I’ve found a lovely little beach pin up for our viewing pleasure.

She has a pretty sweet little swimwsuit on {how awesome are those bottome? they look good and look comfortable too!} and I’m actually really digging her rather clompy foot wear choice, too.

I like that she hasn’t been given the Jessica Rabbit proportions favoured by some artists and instead is working her look with just a smirky little smile.

Until further notice, I’ll be pretending to be her, so if you see me outside eating my lunch on the corporate lawn, pretending to adjust the ties on my bottoms… just shrug and mark it up to a serious lack of down time.

Cheers,

Maggie

Happy Wednesday Swimwear and Lingerie Buddies!

It’s Wordless Wednesday, but I couldn’t just plop a photo of Elizabeth Taylor in the cutest little retro swimsuit top down on the blog without a proper introduction, so, allow me to introduce you to… Elizabeth Taylor… isn’t she wonderful and don’t you just love her bikini top?

Elizabeth Taylor, Bathing Beauty

Elizabeth Taylor, Bathing Beauty

{…doesn’t that belt on her waist look freakin’ painful? Why would she do this to herself? She has a magnificent figure, there’s no need to use a garrote on her mid section…oh and I’m not talking… this is what I would have said if I WAS… but I’m not!}

Cheers,

Maggie

Phoebe Cates’ Retro Bikini

Happy Tuesday Swimwear and Lingerie buddies!

Since yesterday’s Must Have Monday item was Common Sense, {or at least a survival instinct not to knock myself out by wearing too much lingerie and trying to belly surf across my bed on a river of silk} I thought that today’s Totally Retro Tuesday could be a little bit different too. I decided that rather than ooh and ahhh over the message a company was sending with their advertising or mentioning how amazing Marilyn Monroe looked in EVERYTHING… that we could look at the actual item of clothing in the picture and see what made it so awesome.

{I am in no way minimizing just how phenomenal Phoebe Cates is as an actress and as a representation of a healthy, confident feminine figure… after all, let’s face it, there’s a reason she was everyone’s fantasy girl! But for now, we’ll just talk about the swimwear okay?}

I forget where I was on the internet, but I happened to stumble across the iconic photo of Phoebe Cates wearing the notorious red bikini that has helped to make the 80′s movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, such a cult classic and favourite of 13 year old boys everywhere.

Ignoring for the moment that the movie is from 1982 and that it can officially be called retro, which is totally freakin’ me out… {Yes, I was alive in the 80′s, I won’t tell you how old, nor will I tell you that I still can’t believe it’s actually the new millenium… damn I feel old… even though I’m NOT!}
…I thought it would be a good idea to look at her bikini and see where the styles have come full circle and what makes it such a classic design.

The two piece swimsuit is a beautiful deep cherry red that creates a real sense of drama and sophistication. The bikini top features small, triangular, gathered cups with a hidden front closure, tie behind straps, and minimalist matching, over-the-shoulder straps. The bottoms featured a full front and back with a figure flattering, v-shaped, criss cross detail on the waistband. I adore the fact that the top is so minimalist and sparse, as compared to the fuller cut of the bottoms.

Even though this suit is almost three decades old, it wouldn’t be out of place on a beach or pool deck in this day and age. Which is the point of my post. When you have a great design it transcends trends and styles.

Cheers,

Maggie

Hello and Happy Monday Swimwear and Lingerie Buddies.

It is a long weekend here in Canada-land and as such I only have a brief posting for you today… I’m on holiday and loving every minute of it!

So to start us off, I decided on the theme for this “Must Have Monday” post due to the need for a super comfy, totally function-able yet breathtakingly awesome piece of swimming attire. So not so much lingerie today but definitely heavy on the swimwear.

Let me show you the also-rans that I really love but weren’t quite special enough for the ultimate Must Have spotlight… I gleaned each of these beauties from Seafolly. For more information about the Australian Swimwear Line pop on over here, to get right to the visuals, read on.

I adore the boy leg cut of the pants and the halter styling of the top would balance my shoulders and curviness beautifully, BUT this isn’t the one I adore the most.

Now, this one really surprised the heck out of me… I generally have a fairly firm “no pink” rule on my wardrobe choices… but dang if the frills and stylish cut aren’t overruling my pink prejudice…. who knew?

Seafolly Boyleg Maillot

Seafolly Boyleg Maillot

This one was a hugely strong contender… it has the vintage swimwear styling that I love and it has a cool print and interesting construction… throw in the boy leg and it should have won… but it didn’t. Curiouser and curioser…

Are you ready for the big reveal?

Well here it is… I’m not sure why I find this swimwsuit so beguiling.

Seafolly Matt Separates

It could be the strapless nature of the top, the quasi-skirt of the bottom, it definitely has something to do with the totally retro feel of the style and the adorable print. I love the frill at the top and the structured feel of the bodice… all in all, I just really really want it… and not just because I could justify buying the wicked cool swimsuit cover-up below to go with it… though that could have had something to do with the decision.

Ps. Have an excellent Holiday weekend if you’re Canadian… if you’re not, sorry about your luck but you can daydream while you check out Seafolly’s swimwear collection!

Happy Fitting Tip Thursday Swimwear and Lingerie Friends.

In honour of this scorching heatwave I thought we might take a moment to learn some questionably fun facts about bikinis. If you can ignore the fact that this poor young woman has the presentation skills of a Barney child-actor, there are some interesting things to be learned…

Above all, I think we can be glad that swimsuits no longer contain enough fabric to actually drown the bather.

Certainly makes all the amazing runaway looks from the recent swimwear show in Miami even more appealing.

Cheers,

Maggie

Happy Tuesday my Swimwear and Lingerie Peeps!

Yah, thats right I said “Happy” Tuesday. You know why? Because every day of the week CAN be happy, not just Fridays and I am going to keep hammering that home until we all accept it. Gosh Golly Darn It!

{Eep, look at me cursing all Amishish…Sorry for the strong language folks, I’ll try to keep my happy
passion in check}

Amish Swimwear ?

Amish Swimwear ?

…and we’re back.

{blink blink…what? Burned into your retinas you say? Surely you’re exaggerating…}

Shake it off, shake it off…stop crying… the image will fade from your mind.. repeat after me, You are NOT permanently scarred by what you have just seen! Fine… I’m sorry.

C’mon, it was either that or a dirty leprechaun in a mankini joke. I think we can all agree that I made a wise-ish choice.

For once, our Totally Retro Tuesday is a Vintage Swimwear focus rather than vintage lingerie. Refreshing right? Kinda?

Still have’t forgiven me for the mostly naked, top hat wearing dudes above, have you? Again, very sorry.

Take a quick look at our video below and you will see where the Retro in Totally Retro Tuesday comes in!

Pretty awesome pics right? I adore the early two piece swimsuits, but mostly I love the slightly naughty, definitely mischievous looks on the faces of those rebellious women! You go you bad ass chicks! Way to break down the barriers and wear whatever the heck you want!

Cheers,

Maggie
